MacDonald Search Group is proud to partner with the International Cinematographers Guild,  Local 669 (ICG 669) in their search for a Business Agent. ICG 669 has grown its membership size to over 1000 members in the last 30 years and is involved in motion picture, film, digital, internet and television production. They are one of many branches of the IATSE, which was originally founded in New York City over 100 years ago and are the creators of images seen on small and big screens. Members’ skills, professionalism and world-class reputation attract film and television producers from around the globe.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled negotiator with expertise in union labour relations and a desire to have a positive impact on the success of the Film and Television industry in Western Canada.

The primary responsibilities of this key role are to manage and administer the collective agreement and to assist in the process of collective bargaining and contract negotiations. The Business Agent reports to the Executive Board and the Membership. This individual should also be a highly motivated team player, a steadfast advocate for Members’ rights, and someone the Membership can rely on to successfully resolve concerns and issues that arise through the course of day-to-day work in this complex business.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business specializing in labour relations, Law, or an otherwise relevant combination of education and experience
  • Government Relations and/or lobbying experience preferred
  • Experience in and strong knowledge of labour relations and labour law and related contracts
  • Proven success in contract negotiations
  • 10+ years Management experience working with deadline-driven projects
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret contractual language
  • Highly developed communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Proven people leadership skills
  • Some travel may be needed, a valid passport and driver’s license required

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively pursue and maximize signatory productions, and promote Western Canadian Provinces, Yukon and NWT as a film location
  • Assist the Executive Board in the collective bargaining process between the local and the employers
  • Implement policies of Local 669 within the production industry and the broader community
  • Attend union and management meetings
  • Handle all written grievances brought forward by Members
  • Oversee and manage the office staff
  • Liaise between Union and Production Companies
  • Report to the Executive Board and the Membership on all pertinent business matters
  • Serve as one of the Trustees for Local 667/669 Health & Welfare
  • On-set visits as required
