Want to learn the fundamentals to film loading?
The Introduction to Film Loading course will take place on Saturday, March 19th from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm PST via Zoom, followed by an in-person session held at the union office on Sunday, March 20th with two time slots to choose from:
Group 1: 10:00 am -12:30 pm PST (FULL) OR
Group 2: 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm PST (FULL)
Some of the topics that will be covered are:
- Film equipment basics for prep
- How to handle film and magazines
- Darkroom and loading area routines and checks
- Film camera reports and lab communication
- Film inventory and paperwork: both manual and digital
- Troubleshooting: common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Shipping and receiving film
This workshop will be taught by fellow member Adriene Wyse who specializes in working with film.
While there will be a brief opportunity to get hands-on experience loading film, the course is not a substitute for actual practice which can be done at a rental house. The course will focus on the fundamental knowledge needed to get started.
There is a limited number of spots so sign up fast if you wish to attend. The fee to attend is $100 which you can be reimbursed via the ICG 669 training fund, read more about the training fund here (login required).
This training is open to all members in good standing however is best suited for: Assistants, Digital Imaging Technicians, Film Loaders, and Utilities.
Registration closes at 9 AM on March 14th and the $100 attendance fee is due by 9 AM Thursday, March 17th. Please note any no-shows or late cancellations (after Monday, March 14th) will be charged the full $100 fee.
