The International Cinematographers Guild, Local 669 is seeking a professional to join our team as full-time Controller.
Reporting to the Business Agent, the Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the organization’s financial operations, including accounting, finance, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, financial reporting, risk and cash flow management and compliance, ensuring accurate financial records, safeguarding of union assets and providing financial guidance to the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Minimum of five (5) years of directly relevant experience
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and convey financial data
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Proficient in Quickbooks and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of Mac operating system, One Drive and Filemaker
- Film industry experience would be an asset
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (40 hours/week)
Office location: 217-3823 Henning Drive, Burnaby, BC
Remuneration: $56.84/hour

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Management:
- Accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, banking, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights to management.
- Manage cash flow to ensure optimal balance of available operating Funds while maximizing return on idle cash.
- Oversee investments and liaise with Investment Manager to ensure Funds invested in accordance with Investment Policy.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with Business Agents, President and Treasurer to develop annual budgets.
- Monitor budget adherence and identify variances.
- Prepare financial forecasts and projections.
Compliance and Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with government regulations and filings, ICG 669 and International Constitution & Bylaws (C&B).
- Ensure all Bare Land Trust filings up to date and in accordance with applicable legislation and C&B.
- Liaise with external auditor, prepare year end audit schedules, working papers, anaylsis and supporting documentation.
Risk Management:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.
- Review and update internal control procedures as needed.
- Negotiate and ensure sufficient commercial property and liability and other insurances (D&O, Cyber, etc.).
Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare financial reports for the Business Agent and Executive Board.
- Analyze financial data and identify areas for cost reduction and operational efficiency.
- Provide financial insights to inform strategic decision-making.
Other:
- Oversees all bank transactions and relations, and acts as the primary contact for various financial institutions.
- Ensure staff wages and benefits paid in compliance with Unifor and employment agreements.
- Ensure all member benefits and union fees are paid in accordance with collective agreements.
- Monthly reconciliation and reporting of Health and Welfare Benefits to HW trust.
- Weekly reconciliation of RRSP Contributions and coordinate with RSP Plan Administrator.
- Administer Staff Extended Health Benefits Plan.
- Preparation of T4’s and T4A’s.
- Liaise with membership and respond to member enquiries.
- Prepare and review Dues Invoices and Tax Receipts.
- Review and negotiate vendor and building equipment leases (eg. Alarm system, postage, copier, etc.).
- Manage rental property lease including insurance, contract maintenance and invoicing.
- Expel members due to non-payment of dues.
- Financial policy and procedure development.
- Attend Strata Council meetings, review Strata minutes and ensure compliance with Strata Bylaws.
- Oversee and address building operations and liaise with trades and Strata Property Manager as required.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
