Film Training Manitoba

Film Training Manitoba is offering OSM members a 50% discount to attend its Introduction to Camera Crane Workshop taking place March 7 and 8 at William F White’s new studio at 2073 Logan Ave.

Film Training Manitoba has designed this two-day, hands-on course to give participants the experience of working with a camera crane. Instructed by veteran film professional, Francois Balçaen, this workshop will highlight the set up, safety protocols, and operating techniques of camera cranes.

Footage captured by a crane shot can create a visually stunning sense of movement through space by capturing changes in perspective. As more and more productions take advantage of increasingly flexible and lower cost HD camera technology, they look to create films with higher production value and therefore they require tools to stabilize and capture images during camera movements.

Camera cranes are designed to move a camera during a scene and extend out from its base, allowing a camera to push in on a subject, track alongside subjects, or soar above the ground over subjects.

Using video playback, workshop participants will view the video footage from the camera rising and floating in the studio space.

Who Should Take This Course

If you are a filmmaker, camera technician, grip, or other film technician you will also find this course useful.  This is a primer course suitable for participants at all skill levels.

(Please note that this course does not provide certification for crane operation.)
